Emma Raducanu: When will we next see US Open champion on Sky Sports Tennis?

After a great run of form for Emma Raducanu on the clay, when do we expect to see her in action next on the new Sky Sports Tennis channel?

The 2021 US Open champion has had broadly positive results since returning from an eight-month injury lay off last year, after closing down her 2023 season this time last year following a first-round exit in Stuttgart.

Raducanu helped steer Great Britain to a spot in the Billie Jean King Cup finals as they beat home favourites France on clay, and carried on that form into the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix at Stuttgart.

Emma Raducanu shows elite defensive skills against world number one Iga Swiatek to win a point during their face-off in Germany.

She lost to world No 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals – a rematch from the same stage two years ago, and her best performance this year. She also beat former two-time Stuttgart champion and three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber in the opening round.

It has not been all plain sailing, though, for the 21-year-old since her return to the WTA tour. She failed to win any back-to-back matches until reaching the third round of Indian Wells.

She had been due to face China’s Wang Xiyu in the first round of the Miami Open after being awarded a wildcard for the event, but was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a lower back injury.

She was hampered by a stomach bug during her loss at the first major of the year, the Australian Open, but her tennis was encouraging and she stepped up her comeback with victory over Marie Bouzkova in Abu Dhabi before being denied a spot in the quarter-finals by Ons Jabeur.

My main goal is to stay healthy injury-wise, sickness-wise. Also another goal is consistency.

Raducanu has a protected ranking of 103 and as a former Grand Slam champion who draws in big crowds, there is a high possibility she will be offered wild cards into the main draw of many future tournaments if she decides that is her best route or potentially drop down a level to 125 tournaments in order to gain some much-needed match wins.

What is a protected ranking?

A player who is out of competition for more than six months but less than one year may use her special ranking for up to eight tournaments in a one-year period.

A player who is out of competition for one year or more may use her special ranking for up to 12 tournaments in a one-year period.

If a player is out of competition due to pregnancy or a medical condition, she is allowed three years to use her special ranking. In the event of pregnancy, the time period is calculated from the birth of the child.

Upon her return, a player is eligible to use her special ranking for seeding purposes at the first eight WTA tournaments she plays.

A player may freeze her ranking up to two times. Under the previous rule, a player was allowed to freeze her ranking just once.

The next WTA events are the WTA 1000 clay court tournaments in Madrid and Rome, starting on April 23 live on Sky Sports Tennis.

Her best performance at Madrid was in 2022, where she reached the third round.
