Drivers are facing huge delays on the M5 motorway after a lorry transporting a fairground ride caught fire.
The northbound M5 was closed between junctions 22 and 23 near Bridgwater, with police present at the scene.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call just before 9.30 am on Monday morning following reports that the lorry’s trailer had caught alight.
The fairground lorry was visible on the motorway’s hard shoulder, with reports indicating that two fire engines and a water carrier, along with local police, were attending the incident.
A spokesperson for the fire service said that the trailer was “well alight.
National Highways says that there’s up to seven miles of congestion on the approach, although one lane of the motorway has since been reopened.
