Drivers have been spotted outside of their vehicles after a police incident on the M11 has forced the southbound carriageway to close.
An air ambulance has been spotted at the scene between Junctions 8 and 7A (Stansted and Harlow), with officials warning that the road could be closed for some time. A diversion route is in place.
A post on the National Highways website reads: “The M11 is closed southbound between J8 (Stansted) and J7A (Harlow) due to an ongoing Essex police led incident. The northbound is carriageway is currently held to allow the air ambulance to land at the scene.
“All emergency services are working at the scene with Essex police leading the response. Traffic Officers and contractors are on scene and assisting with strategic closures on the approach.
“At this stage it is not known how long the carriageway will be closed for. Plans are being made to clear the traffic caught within the closure, please await instructions from officers on scene.”
