Former Great Britain and Castleford Tigers scrum-half Keith Hepworth has died at the age of 82.

Hepworth played 11 times for Great Britain, including in each of the three Ashes Tests in 1970 in Australia when Britain came back to win 2-1, the last time they won the series.

Later that year, he also played in the World Cup final at Headingley, which the Kangaroos won 12-7.

Hepworth won the Challenge Cup with Castleford in successive seasons in 1969 and 1970 and was later named in the club’s hall of fame after playing 329 games for the Tigers.

He later played for Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC before having coaching spells with both Bramley and Hull FC.

“Castleford Tigers would like to offer their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Keith Hepworth at this difficult time,” a Tigers statement said., external
