Traffic stopped on the busy M40 in Oxfordshire after a HGV overturned in a crash, leaving it hanging over a footpath.
All were closed southbound on the M40 between junctions J8A Waterstock and J6 Lewknor after a crash which saw a lorry flip on its side.
Two lanes have now reopened after the motorway was shut for hours which caused queueing traffic to junction J9, but drivers still face 20-minute delays.
Meanwhile, passengers catching a train this Christmas Eve have been warned of disruption on services between London Waterloo and Guildford due to emergency engineering works. All lines in the Clandon area are set to be blocked until the end of the day, causing schedule revisions and cancellations on South Western Railway trains.
Overnight snow on the M62 caused disruption at the weekend, and while more is likely to fall throughout December, it is not expected to cause any serious traffic problems today.

Both westbound lanes on the A14 between J22 and J13 near Thrapston, Northamptonshire, are closed.
This is due to an ‘accident involving a vehicle that has left the carriageway’, National Highways said.
It is expected to clear and reopen by 10pm.
The M5 motorway is closed in both directions between J6 and J8 near Worscester.
This is due to animals on the road.
It is not expected to clear until 9pm.
easyJet flight EZY73MZ from Manchester finally reached Jersey airspace around 6pm, 11 hours after its scheduled departure time this morning.
Then, it turned around. Foggy conditions meant it couldn’t land. So now it is approaching Portsmouth on its way back to Manchester.
Another easyJet flight from London, which departed more than two hours late, finally landed at 6.40pm after flying several circles near the island.
Northbound and southbound entry slips for the M5 by Junction 8 at Worcester are currently closed.
This is due to animals on the road, causing some delays up to Junction 8.
There are no services between Euston and Watford Junction on the Lioness London Overground line.
Meanwhile, Tube services are severely delayed on the Bakerloo Underground line between Queen’s Park and Harrow & Wealdstone.
This is while Network Rail is fixing a points failure at Queen’s Park.
Two of three northbound lanes near Loughborough are closed after a crash at Junction 23 on the M1 around 4.20pm.
It is causing congestion along this stretch of the motorway, which is expected to last until 7pm.
The crash should be cleared by 6pm, when lanes can start reopening.
Congestion is slowly starting to clear on the M40 after a lorry crashed through the barrier in Oxfordshire.
However, drivers should still prepare for 20-minute delays on approach and around one mile of congestion.
One lane remains closed for the barrier repair after the HGV wreckage was safely removed from above a footpath.
National Highways said the crash has left the lorry wreckage hanging over a footpath below after it breached the safety barrier.
After the lorry is safely recovered, work will begin to repair the safety barrier, suggesting that the southbound carriageway will remain closed for some time.
Craig Sowden, Operations Manager for National Highways’ East region, advised drivers to avoid the area if they can.
‘This collision has left an HGV balancing precariously over a footpath used by members of the public below.
‘We have looked at all possible options but the only way to manage this situation safely is to close the carriageway.
‘We thank drivers for their patience and would advise them to allow extra time for their journeys.’

National Highways said there is around 45-minute delays on approach while the latest traffic alert now shows queues reaching back to junction J10.
