Chaos on major UK motorway after horror lorry crash sparks 90-minute delays

Emergency services raced to the scene of a horror crash on the M6, with drivers being warned of severe 90-minute delays along a stretch of one of the UK’s busiest motorways.

A diversion was put in place and it was initially not known whether anyone had sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.

However – after hours of mile long tailbacks – the M6 has now re-opened, traffic is once again freeflowing and there were no injuries.

A post on the National Highways website read: “The M6 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between J15 (Stoke-on-Trent) and J16 (Crewe) following a collision involving a car and a lorry.

“Emergency services including Staffordshire Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.”

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police later confirmed there was a collision between a  HGV, an Audi car and a Mercedes car.

They said: “We were called to the M6 northbound in Hanford, Stoke-on-Trent, at junction 15, following reports of a collision involving a HGV, an Audi car and a Mercedes car.

“No injuries were reported and recovery was arranged. Traffic is now moving slowly in the area.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to this initially but then stood down prior to arrival as no longer required.”
