A lorry fire sparked travel chaos during rush hour on the M11 in Cambridgeshire on Friday morning.
Emergency services including police and firefighters rushed to the scene on the major motorway beween Junction 11 and Junction 12.
A spokesperson for South Cambs Police wrote on X: “M11 Junction 11 northbound closed following a lorry fire. The road will remain closed whilst emergency services deal with the incident and the road surface is cleaned. Please use alternative routes and expect delays.!
A post on the National Highways website adds: “The M11 northbound is closed between J11 Westfield Interchange ((Cambridge (S) A1309; Harston A10) and J12 Haggis Farm Interchange (Cambridge, Sandy A603) due to a lorry fire earlier.
“Cambridgeshire Police, Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue and National Highways Traffic Officers are attending. This is closure is causing delays of at least 60 minutes.”
A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “At 5.33am crews from Sawston, Cottenham, Cambridge and Burwell along with a water carrier from Newmarket (Suffolk) and a crew from Royston (Hertfordshire) were called to a lorry fire on M11 near junction 10.
“Wearing breathing apparatus firefighters used hose reels and small tools to extinguish the fire before returning to their stations by 7.50am. The cause of the fire was accidental.”
