Track and Field star Sharon Colyear was a legend. Representing Great Britain in several Olympic games, Colyear went on to become a pioneer for women’s sports. Unfortunately, according to the recent updates, Colyear has passed away recently at the age of 69 years. Taking to X, one of her compatriots in the Olympic games, Tessa Sanderson broke the gruesome news to the fans. 

She wrote, “So sorry to post this sad news just heard Sharon Danville was Sharon Colyear a great former British athlete of the 70s/80s hurdler/sprinter passed away today. We competed at many champs together and had fun. Sincere condolences to her family RIP Sharon .” Colyear specialized in hurdles. However, she also competed in flat races as well, making her one of the British sporting icons of the past.

Colyear made history when she managed to qualify for the 1976 Montreal as well as the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. While Colyear did not win an Olympic medal, she did get her flowers at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. Competing in the 100m hurdles Colyear won the bronze medal, establishing her legacy as one of the best. In fact, her joy got doubled when she took the gold medal in the same event, competing in the 4x100m relay.
