Europe’s ‘most underrated budget travel destination’ costs £160 for weekend

Traveling on a budget can often seem like a daunting task, even with the availability of low-cost flights and affordable hotel deals.

But one British TikToker, known for her budget-savvy tips, has uncovered what she calls Europe’s “most underrated” destination –Bosnia and Herzegovina – where you can enjoy a long weekend for less than £160, all-inclusive.

In a recent TikTok video, Em from @emsbudgettravel revealed her top pick for 2024 after visiting nine countries so far this year.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a stunning Balkan nation that has recently become more accessible thanks to new, budget-friendly flights from Ryanair.

“This is one of the most underrated countries in Europe and one of the cheapest I’ve been to,” Em shared in her video.

“I only spent £158.44 in total for everything, including flights, accommodation, food, activities, transport—literally everything.”

Em’s trip centred around the capital city, Sarajevo, which she described as a beautiful and safe destination with friendly locals.

Sarajevo is a city rich in history, culture, and picturesque scenery, offering visitors a unique blend of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and modern influences.

For those looking to explore beyond the capital, Em recommends a day trip to Mostar, a small city just two hours away by train.

Mostar is famous for its historic Stari Most bridge, where locals and tourists alike can witness the brave dive into the Neretva River below – a tradition that adds a magical charm to the city.

Em noted: “The city felt so magical and it was the highlight of the trip for me.

“Overall, it was an amazing trip, and I definitely wanted more than the four days I had here.”

Bosnia and Herzegovina offers incredible value for travellers, with four-star hotels in Sarajevo costing as little as £45 a night.

Splitting the cost with a travel companion means just over £20 each per night, making it an ideal destination for budget-conscious adventurers.
