Drivers are facing chaos outside Liverpool airport this morning with five mile queues and delays of 90 minutes.

A collapsed drainage cover on the M56 eastbound at junction 12 for Runcorn and the airport means emergency works are being carried out.

Highways England has warned people to allow extra time if they are travelling to the airport.

Meanwhile there are problems on the London Overground between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction until the weekend.

There is also reduced service on the entire network of the DLR, which will carry on until Sunday.


No trains from London Waterloo to Chessington South

A fault with the signalling system between Chessington South and Motspur Park means all lines are currently closed. As a result, trains will be cancelled or revised.

Disruption is expected until 1.30pm.

Until further notice Chessington South to London Waterloo services will be diverted to Hampton Court after Raynes Park, calling additionally at New Malden and Surbiton in both directions

To assist with journeys your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost to yourself, on the following services:

  • London buses between the Raynes Park – New Malden – Surbiton – Motspur Park – Worcester Park – Tolworth – Chessington areas.

Minor delays on the central line

There are minor delays on the central line between Leytonstone and Hainault via Newbury Park while a signal failure is fixed at Barkingside.

Good service on the rest of the line.

Train disruption between Reading and Wokingham

A fault with the signalling system in the Earley area is disrupting services between these stations.

An earlier fault on a train at Winnersh has been resolved but continues to cause additional disruption.

Trains between Reading and Wokingham may be delayed by up to 20 minutes, cancelled or revised.

Disruption is expected until 13:00.

Heavy traffic on major road near M3

A vehicle fire on the A322 northbound close to the M3 is causing traffic this morning.

The carriageway between the M3 junction and A30 London Road is partially blocked.

Emergency services are at the scene and traffic is expected to get worse until the vehicle is cleared.

Seven Tube and Overground stations are getting new toilets

TfL has announced that toilets will open at seven Tube and Overground stations over the next five years as part of a £3 million investment.

It means that all Tube, Overground and Elizabeth line passengers will be within 20 minutes of a toilet.

The first round of new toilets — which will be free to use — will appear at these stations:

  • Camden Road Overground
  • Clapton Overground
  • New Cross Gate Overground
  • South Tottenham Overground
  • White Hart Lane Overground
  • Morden Underground
  • Hammersmith Underground

Non-accessible toilets will also be given accessible facilities at these stations:

  • Amersham
  • Green Park
  • Seven Sisters
  • Sudbury Hill

TfL photocards still not available following cyber attack

Transport for London (TfL) photocards are still unavailable for people after a cyber attack that happened in September.

Around 5,000 people were contacted by TfL saying details including sort codes and bank account numbers were accessed by hackers.

Photocards impacted include those for children, students, care leavers, people aged over 60, apprentices and veterans.

The hack also included names, emails, home addresses and Oyster refund data and a 17-year-old boy was arrested over the hack.

TfL has yet to confirm when it can reissue photocards.

British Airways ‘downgrades’ Club World in-flight meals

People travelling with British Airways in business class have been left less than impressed after the airline ‘downgraded’ its in-flight food service.

It has reduced the choice of main courses on offer to passengers and desserts in what people are saying is a ‘cost-cutting measure’, The Sun reports.

For departures after 9pm, the airline has scrapped its traditional business class three-course dining experience.

Passengers will no longer receive appetisers or have a choice of desserts, with main meals reduced to simple options such as cheese and crackers, soups and salads.

Drivers face 45 minute delays after crash on major road

One lane is closed on the A180 westbound between the A160 and M180 in Humberside after a crash between a car and a lorry.

Emergency services are currently at the scene but there are 45 minute delays in the area for drivers right now.

Long delays on M602 near Manchester after crash

Drivers in the north are facing 30 minute delays this morning on the M602 eastbound between junction 2 and 3 after an earlier crash.

Traffic was held due to the collision and the vehicles were moved to the hard shoulder and traffic started flowing normally at 07.20am.

But this has caused delays and will take some time to clear during rush hour.

Massive tailbacks on major road due to spillage of offal

There are severe delays this morning on the A1/A46 Winthorpe Intercharge near Newark, Notthinghamshire, because of offal on the road.

Drivers are facing 60 minute delays to their journey because of the spillage that has closed one lane on the A17.

Drivers are advised to allow for extra time during the rush hour if they are heading that way.

Road closed as crews deal with lorry crash

Two lorries have crashed into each other on the A1 in Cambridgeshire in the early hours of this morning.

The road has been closed northbound between the A1M J17 and A6118 (Wansford) due to the collision.

Emergency crews including Cambridgeshire Police are at the scene.

Diversion details:

  • Drivers are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs.
  • Exit the A1M at J17 and join the A1139 eastbound. 
  • Exit the A1139 at J3 and at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A1260. 
  • Follow the A1260 to the A47 Longthorpe Interchange and turn left onto the A47.
  • Continue on the A47 back to the A1 and rejoin the A1 northbound at Wansford junction.
