Garden Rescue presenter Charlie Dimmock’s dramatic transformation over the years

Beloved TV presenter and gardening expert Charlie Dimmock has been brightening TV screens for decades. Kickstarting her career in the 90s, Charlie starred alongside Tommy Walsh and Alan Titchmarsh in BBC series Ground Force from 1997 to 2005.

The horticulture enthusiast, 58, also had her own series, Charlie’s Gardening Neighbours, which aired in 2001 and lasted for one series.

Charlie’s love of gardening began at an early age and she went on to join some of Britain’s most renowned gardeners on BBC Two’s Great British Garden Revival from 2013 to 2015.

Since 2016, Charlie has been a presenter on Garden Rescue, which follows the team as they attempt to build and design gardens for homeowners.

Charlie is set to return to screens today as she competes with the Rich brothers to landscape a Shrewsbury garden. Here, Express.co.uk takes a look at Charlie’s dramatic transformation from past to present.

Garden Rescue airs at 4pm on BBC One.

Despite the huge popularity of Ground Force, Charlie’s stint on the show was partially overshadowed by a sensational scandal.

In 2001, she ended her relationship with long-time beau John Mushet after her affair with Ground Force microphone operator, Andy Simmons, came to light.

Revealing where she stood on the matter, Charlie said: “But I don’t regret what happened. You wouldn’t do anything if you kept worrying about what might go wrong.”

Charlie previously opened up about the reaction to her daring wardrobe choices on Ground Force, where she famously wouldn’t wear a bra. She recalled: “The TV presenter Esther Rantzen said to me, ‘You’ll be labelled the bra-less one for the rest of your life.

“Ground Force was a long time ago, and I have to say, even now, people will bring it up. It is very silly. It was always just for comfort. If you’re swinging a sledgehammer, you want to be comfortable! People say, ‘Why don’t you wear a sports bra?’ But those are not the comfiest things in the world.”
