Tom Daley makes his first outing in diving at Paris 2024, and it’s a cracker as he aims to repeat the emotional gold he won alongside Matty Lee in Japan in the men’s synchronised 10m platform.
This time alongside Noah Williams, who replaces the injured Lee, Daley is somewhat at peace having finally added top spot to his repertoire, at his fourth Olympic Games, after winning three bronze medals up to Tokyo 2020.
Daley first competed at Beijing 2008, as a 14-year-old, and is back for a fifth edition, now with husband Lance, and two children, cheering him on from the stands. Reigning world champions, Yang Hao and Lian Junjie, who won the title by almost 50 points ahead of Daley and Williams in February, will be hard to beat.
Tom Pidcock will take to Elancourt Hill – the highest point in the Paris region at 231m – but won’t have time to take in the sweeping views, as he hurtles down the mountain bike trail in an attempt to repeat his gold medal from Tokyo. The reigning cross-country world champion is also an entrant in the men’s road race (3 August).
