Great Britain’s women fell to a 63-60 defeat against unbeaten Sweden in their latest EuroBasket qualifier in Malmo.
The GB team were aiming to avenge a 64-62 loss in the reverse fixture in Manchester and boost their chances of qualifying as Group D winners.
They took a five-point lead into half-time, but the hosts responded well, cutting GB’s advantage to two points by the end of the third quarter.
The Swedes completed their fightback in the final quarter to edge another tight encounter and extend their record to four wins from four games.
Holly Winterburn led the scoring for Great Britain with 22 points, while Temi Fagbenie added 21.
Victory would have seen GB draw level with the Swedes at the top of the table, but they remain in second place with two wins and two defeats.
Group winners qualify for Women’s EuroBasket 2025, which will be held across the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece and Italy in June.
The four runners-up from groups A to H with the best records in qualifying will also progress to next year’s finals, as will each host country.
