It’s discreet, stylish and very, very British – so no wonder hit Netflix show The Gentlemen has reached for the Royal fashion wardrobe beloved of Charles and Kate…

Netflix’s The Gentlemen outfits tell a quintessentially British story – of a second son inheriting a family estate that, as he discovers to his horror, has declined into rack and ruin.

Needless to say, it is also a story of Barbour jackets, wellies and Prince of Wales checks.

According to social media site Pinterest, the hit show has even helped push ‘old money’ fashion, including tweed and flat caps.

The quiet luxury style of lead character Susie Glass ( HoKaya Scodelario) consistently echoes the Princess of Wales’s beautifully curated wardrobe, while the outerwear of Eddie Horniman (Theo James) mirrors a dressed down Prince William.

Created by costume designer LouLou Bontemps, the wardrobe of The Gentlemen provides endless fashion inspiration, perfectly encapsulating each character in classic-with-a-twist country wear outfits together with luxury fashion designs – plus a strong likeness to our own royal family.

Red Checks

The checked coats worn by both Kate Middleton and Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) from The Gentlemen are surprisingly similar

As Susie Glass strides through the snow in a Really Wild red check coat with coordinating beret, her sixties style ensemble was reminiscent of the Princess of Wales when attending an Wales V England rugby match in 2023.

Kate layered her custom houndstooth coat by royal favourite Catherine Walker which she had previously worn in 2018, over a black roll neck and carried a Mulberry bag.

Fedoras

There’s a distinct sense of déjà-vu when it comes to the matching fedoras. Both Camilla and Lady Sabrina (Joely Richardson)  top off their country ensembles with the stylish headpiece.

Perfect for windy days in the outdoors, Lady Sabrina takes style ques from Queen Camilla and wears hers atop a bouncy blow-dry, pairing it with emerald hues, leather gloves and a demure silk scarf tied at the neck.

Ladies in Red

Proving their status as power women, both Kate and Susie went head-to-toe in deep tones of red accentuating their slim waists with a wide belt.

Sophisticated yet still glamorous, the Princess of Wales visited a community nursery in Cornwall in 2023 wearing a Gabriela Hearst sweater and skirt, cinching it in at the waist with a ba&sh belt, while Susie went high end in Stella McCartney with the same style large square waist belt.

Gala Gowns

Dazzling in floor length emerald green sequins, Susie stood out for a gala event wearing a Marchesa gown featuring a beaded bodice and flowing velvet skirt with large gold earrings encrusted with rubies and emeralds.

A departure from her usual fashion choices, she clearly took inspiration from Kate and her show-stopping red carpet wardrobe. Previously the Princess of Wales wore this sparkling emerald column gown by Jenny Packham at the Royal Variety Performance in 2023 with similar long sleeves and Missoma gold fan earrings.

Power Pink

Both Kate and Susie’s wardrobes are underpinned with an impressive collection of coats which always elevate their cold weather looks.

Among their statement pieces are fuchsia pink wool styles that were inspired by the Barbiecore trend.

While giving out food parcels at the Windsor Foodshare in 2023, the Princess of Wales styled her Hobbs coat with a matching rollneck underneath for a monochromatic moment in a look which was repeated in The Gentlemen, this time in vintage Windsmoor and Gucci cat-eye sunglasses.

Tweed Tailoring

Lady of the Manor Sabrina, played by Joely Richardson, has a wardrobe packed with a selection of tweed blazers always worn with a crisp white shirt and a neat string of pearls, giving her a polished look which is fit for the countryside.

Here she chooses a Cordings Wincanton tweed blazer with Schoeffel moleskin breeks and Ilse Jacobsen boots which is straight out of Queen Camilla’s style rulebook, who similarly chose a tweed blazer for an event at Prospect Hospice in Savernake, pairing it with her go-to Russell and Bromley suede boots.

Camel Colour Palette

A wool Max & Co coat served as the focal point for Kate’s all-camel look when visiting Scarborough in 2022.

Worn with a turtleneck midi-length knitted dress and cinched with a slender leather Boden belt, the neutral look was classically elegant. Similarly in a tonal camel palette, Susie Glass also wore her wavy brunette locks down and kept accessories simple and discreet.

Mourning in Black

Large, sweeping, wide-brimmed hats were the headpieces of choice for the stylish pair when attending memorial services.

Baker Boy Hats

Dapper in tweed for a day at the races, Mike Tindall stayed true to his humble Yorkshire roots by topping his smart tailored suit with a baker boy cap.

Groundskeeper Geoff Seacombe, played by Vinnie Jones, equally stayed traditional for his outdoor endeavours in The Gentlemen wearing a Härkila hat of the same design.

Barbour Coats

Quintessentially British brand Barbour made many appearances in The Gentlemen and was the coat of choice on many occasions for Eddie Horniman.

Equally this has always been a go-to for Prince William when on country pursuits, and here in North Wales he chose a very similar style with top pockets as the Barbour Bedale coat which Eddie wore for his first meeting with Susie Glass.

Casual Suiting

Our royal gentlemen are renowned for dressing in  classic British style – with discreet panache.
