London Underground line suspended after ‘significant leaf fall’

Part of the London Underground network is suspended after leaf fall caused by recent stormy weather.

People travelling between Uxbridge and Rayners Lane on the Piccadilly line will have to find alternative ways to travel because the line remains suspended between the stations due to ‘significant leaf fall.’

Elsewhere, there are further severe delays on the whole of the Piccadilly line because of a signal failure at King’s Cross St Pancras.

It comes after towns, roads and the rail network are reeling from the impact of Storm Bert followed by Storm Conall yesterday which caused flooding of homes and tracks across England and Wales. A Met Office weather warning for fog remains in place along with flood warnings.

Crash causes delays on part of the M6

A crash on the M6 is causing delays for drivers as we head into this afternoon.

There are currently two of three lanes closed between junction 5 for Birmingham East and junction 4A for Sutton Coldfield because of an accident.

Disruption is expected until at least 2.30pm this afternoon.

Serious crash closes major road in Derbyshire

For drivers using the A50 in Derbyshire this afternoon, the road is closed eastbound between the A38 junction and the A6 junction for Derbyshire.

This is due to a serious crash.

The closure is eight miles long and National Highways has thanked drivers while they deal with the incident.

Disruption to South Western Railway expected until 8pm

There is currently disruption on South Western Railway between Motspur Park and Chessington South which is expected to last until 8pm this evening now.

This is impacting routes between London Waterloo and Chessington South because of a points failure.

As a result, trains are unable to run between these stations and will instead start and terminate at Hampton Court.

Until further notice the following alterations are in force which include:

  • London Waterloo – Chessington South services will be diverted to and from Hampton Court, additionally calling New Malden and Surbiton in both directions.

To assist with journeys people’s tickets will be accepted, at no extra cost, on the following services:

  • London Buses on all routes between Raynes Park – Motspur Park – Chessington South – Surbiton – Epsom – Dorking – Effingham Junction via any reasonable route
  • Southern via any reasonable route until further notice

Replacement buses have been requested to run between Motspur Park to Surbiton via Chessington South.

Chaos on the Piccadilly line with signal failure at King’s Cross

A signal failure at King’s Cross St Pancras is causing severe delays for Londoners across the entire Piccadilly line.

TfL has said that London Underground tickets will be accepted on London buses, Elizabeth line, Great Northern and London Overground.

On another part of the line there is no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge due to poor rail conditions caused by significant leaf fall.

Train disruption between Bournemouth and Weymouth

A fault on a train at Hamworthy is blocking the line towards Weymouth.

Trains running through Hamworthy may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 12pm.

Heavy traffic on M6 after vehicle fire

A vehicle fire is causing traffic chaos on the M6 this morning.

There are two of four lanes closed on the motorway northbound between junction 13 for Stafford south and junction 14 for Stafford north.

It is not expected to be cleared until 11.45am and even after then delays are still expected in the area.

Severe delays on major route near Southend

Drivers are facing severe delays on the A127 in Southend this morning.

It is impacting the road westbound between A1158 Prince Avenue and St. Michaels Road, with journey times extended by approximately 13 minutes.

What’s worse is the average speed for drivers on the road is only 5mph and it is not known what is causing the slow traffic.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys. 

Delays hit the Elizabeth line

For those of you using the Elizabeth line this morning, there are currently minor delays on a part of the line.

It is impacting services between Paddington and Heathrow Terminals/Reading due to an earlier signalling problem at Ealing Broadway.

There is a good service on the rest of the line.

Traffic stopped on M5 after vehicle fire

A vehicle fire on the M5 in Gloucestershire means traffic was stopped for a while.

It is impacting traffic on the southbound carriageway between junction 7 for Worcester and junction 8 for the M50.

While lanes have opened again, there is still heavy traffic with traffic service Inrix saying: ‘Very slow traffic due to earlier vehicle fire on M5 Southbound from J7 A44 (Worcester / Evesham) to J8 M50. All lanes have been reopened.’

‘Shortage of staff’ leads to disruption on Thameslink services

To add to people’s woes this morning, there is disruption on some Thameslink services this morning because of a shortage of staff.

It is impacting services running through London Blackfriars because of the shortage of staff at Cricklewood depot, Thameslink confirmed.

It means that some trains have not left the depot to transport people across the capital this morning.

There are fewer train running between St Albans and Sutton, and also between Luton and Orpington as a result.

Delays on the Jubilee line

It has not been a good morning for commuters in London this morning and there are now minor delays on the Jubilee line.

This is impacting the entire line and is being caused by train cancellations.

This waiting times for Jubilee line services will be longer than usual.

Bridge over M25 blocked after crash

A bridge has been partially blocked over the M25 in Buckinghamshire.

Hornhill Road is partially blocked eastbound from Shire Lane to the Hawthorns after a crash at about 8.30am.

Severe delays on Metropolitan line

The Metropolitan line has been hit by severe delays just as passengers are trying to get to work on the busy commuter line.

The latest TfL travel status update shows there are severe delays between Harrow-on-the-Hill to Watford due to train cancellations.

A stretch between Wembley Park to Harrow-on-the-Hill has minor delays because of an obstruction on the track.

Issues on Greater Anglia trains in the Ely area

Greater Anglia services are slowly returning to normal after a points failure in the Ely area.

Passengers still face cancellations, delays of up to half an hour and revisions between Norwich and Stansted Airport, and Ely and London Liverpool Street.

Trains are queueing up on the tracks which is why services could still be disrupted until about 9.30am.

Points failure affects South Western Railway trains

South Western Railway trains between London Waterloo and Chessington South face disruption this morning after a points failure.

The failure, which happened between Malden Manor and Chessington South, means all lines are blocked and trains cannot run between these stations.

Instead, services will start and terminate at Hampton Court, with disruption expected until 11.30am.

  • Trains between London Waterloo and Chessington South will be diverted to and from Hampton Court, with additional stops at New Malden and Surbiton in both directions

Thameslink train disruption after staff shortage

Thameslink services between London Blackfriars and Sutton could be delayed, cancelled or revised after a shortage of depot staff.

Some trains have been unable to leave the depot so fewer trains are able to run.

Trains running through St Albans City and West Hampstead are also affected.

National Rail said the issue is expected to last until 8.30am.

Trains between Euston, Birmingham and Crewe affected by storm

Heavy rain and strong winds caused by Storm Bert over the weekend still affects some train routes, including in the Midlands and the Northampton area where the station tracks were flooded.

London Northwestern Railway is running a reduced service from London Euston while some routes are suspended.

Here are the affected routes from London Euston station.

  • Two trains per hour will run between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston
  • Trains between Birmingham New Street and London Euston via Northampton will run between Birmingham New Street and Milton Keynes Central only
  • Trains between Tring and London Euston are suspended
  • Around one in three trains between Crewe and London Euston will be cancelled

Fault on a train causes delays on Southern services

If you’re travelling on Southern services, prepare for possible delays of up to 15 minutes after an earlier fault on a train near Shepherds Bush.

While service is now returning to normal, residual delays or schedule revisions are still likely until 7.30am on trains between Watford Junction and Shepherds Bush, National Rail said.

Tube travel status update

While most of the TfL network is coping better than yesterday after a trackside fire, alerts and persistent Elizabeth line disruption, part of the Tube remains suspended.

  • Piccadilly line – No service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge due to poor rail conditions caused by significant leaf fall while the rest of the line has good service
  • Metropolitan line – Minor delays Moor Park to Watford due to train cancellations and Wembley Park to Harrow-on-the-Hill due to an obstruction on the track
  • London Tramlink – The earlier suspended service between Therapia Lane and Wimbledon has resumed and the issues have been downgraded to minor delays due to power supply problems
