Olympic champions Alex Yee and Keely Hodgkinson nominated for 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year

British Olympic champions Alex Yee and Keely Hodgkinson are among the nominees for the 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The Paris 2024 gold medallists are on the six-strong shortlist for the BBC’s annual sports accolade, which this year celebrates its 70th anniversary.

Yee won the men’s triathlon with a stunning late surge in the final 400m to take gold. This has been the 26-year-old’s crowning year, in which he won the Olympic and world triathlon titles becoming the most decorated triathlete in the sport’s history.

Hodgkinson stormed to victory in the women’s 800m final at the Stade de France, adding to her European Championships title two months prior. It is an event the track star has dominated this year, breaking the British national record and becoming the sixth fastest woman in its history.

Also nominated for the award is Great Britain’s most decorated Paralympian Sarah Storey, who won two para-cycling gold medals in Paris to bring her Paralympic medal tally up to 30 medals.

Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham is the lone football nominee, whose superb debut season for the Spanish giants saw him win LaLiga and the Champions League. The other nominees are cricket legend Joe Root and 17-year-old darts prodigy Luke Littler.
