Tesco

The country’s largest supermarket chain has confirmed it will be shutting down its superstore site in Chippenham, Wiltshire, on August 15.

While the news will be disappointing for shoppers, a new Tesco Express store is opening in the area to replace it.

Wickes

This retailer has announced the closure of its Moore Street store in Sheffield which will take place August 16.

DIY shoppers have been forced to deal with multiple Wickes closures as of late, following the shut down of the brand’s Bristol store earlier this year.

Marks and Spencer

A popular M&S store based in Redhill, Surrey, is shutting its doors after 33 years on August 17.

This is part of the retailer’s wider restructuring plans with The Belfry Shopping Centre site being on the chopping block.

Clinton Cards

Two popular branches of this chain will be shutting their doors following Clinton Cards falling into insolvency last year.

These include the retailer’s store in Bexhill on August 4 and another at the Castlepoint shopping centre in Bournemouth on August 11.

Notably, Boots is in the process of closing down stores this summer.

The pharmacy chain is looking to shut down 300 pharmacy outlets across the UK to save £618million with 69 set to be axed this year.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Analysis conducted by PwC found there was a net of 14 store closures a day in 2024.

There are 5,000 fewer stores trading across the UK as a result.

Of these closures, an average of 39 chain brands shut down sites daily, while 25 new stores opened.

This resulted to a total of 14,081 store closures for 2023.
